'the stableford poker-golf game

this unique stableford poker-golf game will bring a new dimension to your round. unlike other games poker-golf is played using the stableford handicap system and therefore gives every player an equal opportunity to take the lolly. the poker-golf game once played will become a regular part of your round and can be played at any course with any opposition in any weather.

the game

the poker-golf chips are kept in the waterproof pouch in readiness for the first tee. before you tee off everyone playing agrees the value of each chip i.e. 50p, £1, £2  or higher if you are brave enough. all players whether a two, three or a four ball tee off as normal and go about their games as they would any other day. however, this is where the fun starts! “how many times have you driven off on the first tee and sliced the ball onto the next fairway and shouted ‘fore’!!!, well, there is a poker-golf chip for that. what about hitting the ball straight 'into the wood' well, there’s also a poker-golf chip for doing that. did you get a nett birdie and 3pts on that hole off a 28 handicap?, well, guess what, there is a poker-golf chip for that too.”

the rules

the game does rely on honesty from each player and it will take poker-golf virgins a few holes to get acquainted with the poker-golf chips. if playing with poker-golf virgins it is worthwhile going through the poker-golf chips before you start your round and when your deciding on the amount you will be playing for. poker-golf is easy to pick up and by the end of the round you will all be hooked.

in your poker-golf pouch you will get 12 poker-golf chips in total, 6 are pluses and 6 are minuses. you will see that each poker-golf chip is different with a unique image identifying an event on the golf course, like going 'into the wood' or getting a nett birdie and as such each player is given the poker-golf chip when he hits a shot that relates to that event. that player then keeps that poker-golf chip until another player, whether immediately, or 6 holes later hits the same shot.

you may find that the poker-golf chips change hands on a regular basis whether it is the good chips or the bad chips and sometimes as much as 2/3 times on one hole. don’t worry if after 3 holes you are carrying a few bad chips and don’t start spending your money if you have a few good ones because, believe me, it won’t stay that way for long.

the game really comes into its own when the holes start to run out and most if not all the poker-golf chips are in play. you will find that the players start wishing someone takes the hazard chip off them or gets the putting yips or misses the nett birdie putt. when the last putt is dropped on the 18th and all the poker-golf chips have been passed around for the last time everybody counts up what poker-golf chips they have.

the score

if you have plus poker-golf chips at the end of the round the other players each pay you the agreed price per chip you have.

if you have minus poker-golf chips at the end of the round you pay the other players the agreed price per chip you have.

you will find in most cases the poker-golf chips that each player holds at the end are generally mixed with pluses and minuses which will cancel each other out

for example:

this assumes the original stake was £1 per chip:

john: 1. the hazard chip. (-£1) 2. the boom chip. (+£1) 3. the putting yips

(-£1).

total -£1

john gives all the other players a pound based on his score.

susan: 1. the nett birdie chip. (+£1)  2. 3 off the tee chip. (-£1) 3. pin seeker chip. (+£1)

4. the hazard save chip. (+£1) 5. into the wood chip. (-£1).

total +£1.

susan receives £1 from all the players for her score.

tony: 1. the nett eagle chip. (+£1) 2. the blob chip. (-£1)

total £0

tony doesn’t give or take any money for his score.

david: 1. the single putt chip. (+£1) 2. the hazard save chip. (+£1) the four!!!

chip. (-£1)

total +£1.

david receives £1 from all the other players.

bk3tee_edited.jpg

3 Off The Tee / O.B

if a player decides to take 3 off the tee on any hole or goes out of bounds off the tee or during the hole in play. if the original ball is found and still playable then the player gives the poker-golf chip back to the last player or puts the poker-golf chip back into the pouch. if a player goes out of bounds off the tee and decides not to take another ball they will still have to take the chip along with the blob!!! chip.

bkfore_edited.jpg

Fore!!!

any player to hit a stray ball on to any other golf hole or dangerously close to other players on the course resulting in the fore!!! shout from any player. this is based on the normal etiquette of golf. this applies whether fore!!! is shouted or not by that player and is decided by the other players if in question. however, if the ball strays onto another golf hole it will automatically result in the poker-golf chip going to that player. this does not apply to out of bounds.

corporate golf days

does your company have golf days and usually give away the normal boring golf balls and umbrellas that will end up being lost on the clients next round. do you spend money on the little statues that people don’t really ever keep or caps and golf polo shirts that will never be worn.

well then, how about giving clients poker-golf chips printed with your company name on them in your choice of colours, these are perfect for prizes or gifts. they are sure to be seen every time that client plays golf.

why not use the poker-golf chips on the actual day. poker-golf has listed some ways for you to integrate the poker-golf game into your day to make it even more of a memorable occasion for your clients.

golf societies

poker-golf is perfect for society days or away trips where there is always a little side bet going on. have your society name printed on the poker-golf chip designed in your choice of colour, they make great prizes especially for nearest the pin or longest drive and beats giving away another statue or unworn golf shirt .

use the chips as forfeits after the round with the man holding the blob chip buying his four ball the first round in the bar or the holder of the nett eagle chip drinking for free.

alternative ways to play poker-golf on your golf day

poker-golf games for your corporate or society days:

two chips: perfect for large numbers of groups playing and charity golf days, easy to explain. this is easily integrated into the day if each team is playing both individual and team scores.

play the nett birdie and the blob chip game, give the chips to each group with instructions that the chips are passed between the players every time a player achieves a nett birdie or a blob. the player that holds the nett birdie chip at the end gets to keep the complete poker-golf set and the player holding the blob chip buys his fourball the first round in the bar or makes a donation to charity.

four chips: easily integrated into the day and can be played in conjunction with individual and team competitions. easily explained but better for 10 -30 teams.

use the nett birdie and single putt with the blob chip and into the wood. give the chips to each group with instructions that the chips are passed between the players every time a player achieves a nett birdie, single putt, into the wood or a blob. whoever holds the nett birdie chip at the end gets to keep the complete poker-golf set and the player holding the blob chip buys his fourball the first round in the bar or makes a donation to charity.

six chips: this is good for the smaller golf days of up to 10 teams or away trips with your mates. a bit more to explain but will be worth it.

the best six chips for this game are nett birdie, single putt, pin seeker, the blob chip, into the wood and putting yips. whoever holds the nett birdie chip at the end gets to keep the complete poker-golf set and the player holding the blob chip buys his fourball the first round in the bar or makes a donation to charity.

if many of the players have played poker-golf before you can set up your teams so each team has someone with knowledge of the complete game. leave them to explain the game as they go round the course, this is the best way to play poker-golf and is the easiest way of learning the complete game. most players pick the game up after two or three holes when many of the chips are in play, they are guaranteed to become hooked to poker-golf at this point.
